The USA was an economic powerhouse. They used there economic profile to their advantage during the cold war. The United States was aware of the financial regards to science and they recognized that the soviets did not meet the standards of the estimated costs they needed to advance with technology. Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, saw the USSR as an evil empire and wouldn’t by any means negotiate with them. He implemented the Strategic Defence Initiative (star wars) to prevent missile attacks from other countries but especially from the USSR. This plan was succesful because the soviets were unaware of what the US put into place and continued to spend money in order to find the solution. Eventually the money fell short and country could not continue searching for answers.
The four detente factors worked together to prevent nuclear involvement in the wars. The procedures that significantly impacted this movement was: Nuclear non- Proliferation Treaty, Ostopolitik, Helsinki accords and the Salt Talks. Personally, I think that the Treaty of non-Proliferation would have had the most impact. The creation of this treaty was successfully established in 1968. This treaty acted as an influence on various countries to remind them of the negative impact nuclear weapons have. Documented in this treaty it was clear that if a country did not already have nuclear weapons they were bound to the word and not allowed to begin creating them. This treaty was the powerhouse behind limiting nuclear weapons to only five countries: the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and China.
The involvement of the US troops with the Vietnam War were horrific. The american reputation spiraled downhill due to photographic images that were taken and then portrayed. However, despite their hard efforts they US lost the Vietnam War in several different ways. One of the concerning factors regarding their involvement was the amount of money they contributed to the cause. Their efforts in the war cost an outrageous amount- approximately 150 billion dollars for their participation. Further, the amount lives taken due this war was not an appealing. Due to that, Vietnamization was necessary; "expand, equip, and train South Vietnam's forces and assign to them an ever-increasing combat role, at the same time steadily reducing the number of U.S. combat troops". This war also lead to the Domino Theory. This theory was put into play for the reason that Americans feared communism. They predicted that the rule communism would spread like fire.
