This battle began on Sept. 1, 1942. The main reason it occurred is because of the Germany craving for oil fields in the Cauasus region. At the start of the conflict Germany was successful in ceasing a majority of the city. however, their victory didn't last. Nov. 23th 1942, the German troops were trapped within the city and the German commander Von Poulus ordered that the troops fight till their death. Many casualties occurred and Russia took Stalinguard. This event was a turning point for the Eastern front in WW2. It was in fact the largest battle in human history with a significant amount of causalities (2 million deceased)
