The League of Nations
Question: In what ways did Woodrow Wilson think that collective security might prevent another world war, and why was the League of Nations doomed from its creation?
Woodrow Wilson developed the thought of collective security due to the reason of conflict between countries. The main motive behind this idea was 'world peace'. Wilson wanted to create an atmosphere where countries were able to communicate and understand each other. Wilsons diplomatic resolution, that was thought to improve decision making of countries would pave the way to a peaceful world, eliminating the act of war. However, his proposal of collective security made the League of Nations 'doomed' from the beginning. It wasn't the idea itself, but rather the differences in political opinions. Wilson was lacking the support of three major countries: USA, Russia and Germany. Without the 'big powers' the League of Nations couldn't succeed to its full potential. Britain and France alone didn't obtain the right amount of power to make this peaceful idea affective. The thought of collective security was a promising attempt at achieving world peace but failed due to lack of support.
