The Hungarian Uprising, 1956SummaryHungary was the first satellite state to remove Soviet influence of Communism. The leader, Imre Nagy decided to pull out of the Warsaw Pact. When the Soviets got news of this they rolled into Budapest with tankers and armed forces. In this uprising, 30,000 Hungarians killed and 200,000 fled the country for the west. The Soviets got rid of Nagy and put in Janos Kadar as Hungary's new leaders. He agreed to follow Soviet line and do as the Soveits said. The US did not help in the uprising.
