Invasion of ItalySummaryThis invasion of the Italian country is also referred to as Operation Husky. The forces of the Allies successfully won El Alamein in 1942 for the reasons that the British cu the Germans off from Middle East Oil. In the 1943 the Germans were defeated. The Allies utilized ports in North Africa to attack Sicily on the date of July 9th in 1943. In Italy the Fascist leader Mussolini was removed. Hitler attempted to take over the country and in this midst was able to rescue Mussolini. Two months later, on Sept. 9th, the Allies land at Salerno on the mainland. They get to Rome by June 4th, 1944 and Milan by April 1945. The fighting continues on until the 2nd of May 1945. Mussolini is then hung with his mistress near by.
